Salty’s Kitesurf Village is the perfect blend of a finely kitted kitesurfing learning center, with tasteful and affordable accommodation and a sweetly vibed bar & restaurant in Kilifi, Kenya.
Salty's is the result of a dream. One that seemed far fetched and crazy to some people it was even ludicrous. We set out to create a space where our love for kitesurfing and our own ethos could come together. With this goal in mind, we couldn't just faff about and build a generic holiday destination with beach access.
We had lived and worked in Kilifi for years and as we conceptualized our space we made sure to be mindful that the result would be part of the local community and not just in it. With a team of local artisans (who we had worked with building the Kilifi New Year festival site) we used recycled building materials to turn what was basically an abandoned beach home into something that reflects the Salty’s vibe. We also brought in Ken, an amazing wood artisan from Kiambu. His work with repurposed wood and used pallets, gave us upcycled furniture that now adds an organic feel to our rooms and beach bar. We even have a bathtub in one of our rooms that is now an indoor garden and the wall of our kitesurf center has over 200 discarded flip flops from the beach on the walls.
Our on-site farm is the pride and joy of our garden crew. Created with the principles of permaculture in mind we’ve watched it thrive and we now grow exclusively organic produce, supplying our Kitchen with a lot of our ingredients that look and taste amazing. Enough that we regularly give out surplus produce to clients and staff!
The result of all this work is Salty’s Kitesurf Village, a purpose-driven spot on the Kenyan Coast whose focus is not only hosting guests but more about sharing this slice of paradise and the ethos we have built around it with you!
